What a fantastic day! The forecasters were all wrong! The rain and weather pushed out by 1pm and after a taste of Grenadine rum provided by Dave Childs, we left the WRSC for some of the best racing of the season. We had 13 to 15 knots from the south that was steady. The start was set in our favorite cove and we raced up the channel past the red channel mark. No powerboat wakes either. Seven Chesapeake 20's made it to the starting line. Countries represented included The Grenadine Islands, Sweden, Holland, France, Trinidad, BVI and Britain. The race course had lots of breeze which seamed to be along the left and right sides of the course so when the fleet split, those in the middle most likely did not make out as well. While Kit got a great "lefty" as Roger described it, more lifts tended to be on the right side of the course. This held true until the fourth race when wind filled in from the center and right.
The Worlds Winners are:
3rd place: Gracie - Bob Blomquist, Larry, Jim Reuter
2nd place: Kit - Peter Bell Jr., Molly and Mary
1st place: Endeavor - Clay Taylor, Roger Link, Nolan Stokes (first time on C-20)
West Marine gift certificates were presented to each winning skipper and Trophy mugs to skipper and crew. Special World Performance shirts were available for sailors to buy. (Few left to buy!). Ted Weihe unveiled a C-20 book he has been working on for sailors to preview.
Fantastic appetizers from host flag countries were on display for all to enjoy:
A Swedish Smorgasbord included, cake, meatballs, cheese bread, and pickle/relish tray.
America had sweet corn. France brought brie, crackers, olives and a French liquer. Holland brought a sausage dish.
Grenadines brought fruit. British Virgin Isles brought Shrimp Salad. And MUCH MORE...like Molly's squishy molten lava chocolate cake! YUM!
There was great camaraderie and enjoyment of everyone's company after the races.
Special thanks to the race committee (including Rolfe and Daphne from Albacores) for knowing when to call it a day and make sure all the boats were safe from Sunday's gale force winds and rain. Glenda Blomquist was a real trooper helping Rolfe get the anchor up on the Hallie Q! She can tell you a good story if you ask.

The first # is the average wind, the second the peak gust. I don't feel bad about having gone in.

He helped to crown the new World champions and was a terrific Ambassador for the C-20 World competition during his reign.
