Chesapeake 20 All-Stars and Nationals Rules

Posted in: Current

Attached are the latest lists regarding the boats/skippers/crews for both the Allstar regatta on Friday June 27th and the Nationals on Sat-Sun, June 28-29th.

Hopefully all this madness will work out!!
These events should be great fun.

The boats will be towed to Annapolis Maritime Museum early on Friday June 27th so that we will be organized at AMM before the skippers meeting at noon.

Please let me know if you are towing your own boat.

If you need a tow, the tow boats will be LEAVING the dock at WRSC at 9:00 AM. SHARP!!   It would be best to have the boats in the water on Thursday evening.

ALLSTARS REGATTA
We have a great group of allstars racing.  It would be wonderful if each of the boat owners would call their respective allstar skipper to introduce themselves, get acquainted, and assure that everything is all set for Friday’s racing, etc.  I will note on this mailing the skippers phone number if you likely do not know it.

I have emailed the notice of race for both the allstar and national regatta.  If you didn’t get them or need them, please let me know.

2006 Article about Vanity

Posted in: 1930s, Current, History and Evolution of the Class
A 2006 article about Vanity: The Boat that Inspired the Chesapeake 20.  It quotes John Harding, owner and captain of the Ranger, age 78 (1998) as saying: "I really wanted, once, just to beat Vanity."  For five years from 1934 to 1938, Vanity held on to its winner streak.  As a teenager, John Harding finally beat Vanity in Ranger, after three failed attempts by Cap'n Dick Hartge to build a faster round bottom Chesapeake 20s.  The article appeared in SSRHS News, February 2006 which is the Shady Side Museum where Vanity is on display.
